This month’s closet raid features one of our vintageistas from across the pond.
For us, Instagram is one of the best places to glean inspiration and connect with other like minded people. Recently we came across Alicia (vintage_lici is her handle) and her lovely Schnauzer, Pearl.
I think you will agree she has fabulous taste. We wanted to find out more, so we reached out to her, and she kindly shared with us a selection of her favourite looks and the inspiration behind them….
I don’t care if I look too dressed up! Life’s too short to worry about that sort of thing.
The everyday/every season dress
I love that this dress is so easy to wear and a light enough fabric to wear in Summer or and can layer in Winter. I bought this lovely dress at my absolute favourite vintage shop, Laura’s Vintage in Glens Falls, NY. I’ve worn this to church a couple of times and picnics.
This is the only vintage reproduction of the lot and I bought it at Pin Up Girl Clothing. I originally bought this dress for my senior portfolio showcase after graduating university. I wore it to the gallery showing of my Graphic Design work. I just adore the satin and little bolero that came with it. The bolero is reversible! So, I can have it green or black depending on my mood.
TIP Buying reproduction vintage has never been so easy. There are amazing stores out there such as American brands; Pin Up Girl Clothing, Mod Cloth and UK based brand; Collectif clothing to name a few
The New Year knockout
I absolutely love this jacket and dress combination because it’s so absolutely gorgeous in the pleating! It forces an hourglass shape that’s so lovely. When I was vacationing up in Maine over the summer with my husband and in-laws, I found this lovely set at a flea market in Auburn. The lady whom I bought it from was so lovely and threw in a brooch, rhinestone clip on earrings and shoes to go with it!
I haven’t been able to wear this lovely set yet. But, if there’s a New Year’s Eve party coming up this baby will shine! Otherwise, I’d wear it to the opera or a play.
The leopard print on this dress is what really drew my eye when I found this gem at Capital Costumes & Vintage at Colonie Mall in Albany, NY. There was a missing button and only slight seam repairs to do so I got it for only $27! I would wear this anywhere; I don’t care if I look too dressed up! Life’s too short to worry about that sort of thing.
Don’t be green with envy (we really want this dress!)
This velvet emerald green dream of a dress I bought up in Auburn, Maine. I’m planning on wearing it to my husband’s work Christmas party and I absolutely adore the collar on this dress! How can you not?!
